AUTUMN SESSION OF THE INTERNATIONAL FORUM "EURASIAN ECONOMIC PERSPECTIVE" HELD IN ST. PETERSBURG

On November 10, 2020, the Autumn Session of the International Forum "Eurasian Economic Perspective" was held at the Tavricheskiy Palace in the format of a video conference.

Over the seven years of the session existence, the forum has become the authoritative platform where topical issues of the development of Eurasian Integration on post-Soviet and continental projects are discussed.

In 2020, the Forum was co-organized by St. Petersburg State University of Economics, the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, the Secretariat of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member States – the CIS and the Eurasian Association of Universities.

The key topic on forum agenda was the development of economic integration interaction in the post-Soviet space for the period up to 2030 in the context of a new pandemic dimension.

Traditionally, the representatives of the statutory bodies of the CIS, the Eurasian Economic Commission and leading universities of the Eurasian Association of Universities, members of the Expert Council on Economics under the IPA of the CIS member states, economists, politicians, public figures and representatives of the business community participated in the forum.

The meeting was opened with a welcoming speech addressed to the participants by the Rector of St. Petersburg State University of Economics, Igor Anatolyevich Maksimtsev, who noted that, despite a difficult year, the Eurasian community did not stop productive work on economic and political issues on the territory of the CIS and EAEU member states.

Maksivtsev I.A. has also read out greetings from the Secretary General – the Head of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council D.A.

The Director of the Integration Development Department of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Gohar Ashotovna Barseghyan has voiced a greeting from the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Vladimirovich Myasnikovich.

The Judge of the Court of the Eurasian Economic Union Alexander Adamovich Fedortsov said in his speech that the current circumstances associated with the pandemic revealed the need to comprehend personal freedom, as well as to strengthen integration processes not only in the political and economic, but in the social sphere.

During the meeting, the video message from the President of the Eurasian Association of Universities, the of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, Viktor Antonovich Sadovnichy, was presented, where he highly appreciated the ongoing forum, which, in his opinion, provided ample opportunities for strengthening mutually beneficial and partnership relations between countries and the people of the Eurasian space.

The Chairman of the Executive Committee, Doctor of Economics, Professor Alexander Vladimirovich Sidorovich also spoke on behalf of the Eurasian Association of Universities.

The Head of the Center for the Study of Eurasian Economic Integration at St. Petersburg State University of Economics, the Head of the Department of World Economy and International Relations of St. Petersburg State University of Economics, Doctor of Economics, Professor Sofia Igorevna Record, spoke about the prospects of the new economic paradigm of Russia and the CIS countries in the conditions of the post-like world.

The work of the forum continued in the format of round tables, at which this year they discussed the possibilities of developing the economies of the EAEU and CIS countries in the conditions of a new pandemic dimension, the integration aspects of the development of the EAEU and the CIS in the legal sphere, as well as the possibility of forming an integration contour of Greater Eurasia.

The purpose of the forum is to develop parliamentary, economic, social, educational and other areas of cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian economic integration.

Note: The Forum was created in 2012 at the initiative of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, which was supported by the parliaments of the member states of the Eurasian economic integration. The history of the international congress event dedicated to the Eurasian integration post-Soviet and continental projects includes seven forums and two forum sessions in St. Petersburg, as well as five offsite events in Astana, Bishkek, Yerevan, Kazan and Minsk.
