Annual International Forum “Eurasian Economic Perspective” was organized by UNECON on 1-2 December 2022.
On December 1-2, 2022, the was held, organized by St. Petersburg State University of Economics.
The main topic of the forum, which started on 1 December in the Tauride Palace, was “Development of Eurasian integration in the new economic reality”.
Representatives of the legislative and executive authorities of the countries participating in the Eurasian economic integration, members of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, CIS Executive Committee, rectors, scientists and experts from leading universities of the Eurasian Universities Association, economists, business representatives, public figures attended the forum. Participants discussed strategic issues of modern development of the Eurasian space in the face of multiple external challenges and the development of new projects and partnerships in the macro-region of Greater Eurasia.
Plenary session of the forum “Greater Eurasian Partnership: current state and development prospects. Results of a turbulent year” was opened by Igor Maksimtsev, Rector of St. Petersburg State University of Economics, Chairman of the Expert Council on Economics under the IPA CIS.
“From the point of view of the development of Greater Eurasia as an economic system, the flow of goods, capital, the interaction of intercompany networks and the level of development of the necessary infrastructure (physical and non-physical) are of the highest importance. The degree of connectedness of the space of Greater Eurasia will be the key to acquiring and maintaining the competitive advantages of our region in the international environment”, – Igor Maksimtsev noted in his report.
Dmitry Kobitsky, Secretary General of the Council of the IPA CIS, spoke about the relevance of the forum: “The priority of the parliamentary dimension of the objective of Eurasian integration is the convergence and harmonization of legislation in the field of economy, humanitarian field and security issues in order to overcome obstacles arising from differences in national systems of legal regulation”.
Tigran Sargsyan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank, emphasized in his speech that the Eurasian integration management system needs to be updated, it is necessary to speed up the process of developing solutions to strategically important tasks that affect business processes between the EAEU countries.
Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, mentioned in his video address the need to combine the industrial, trade and banking potentials of the EAEU states in order to achieve technological independence.
Among other speakers there were Andrey Klepach, Chief Economist of VEB.RF, Ivan Polyakov, Chairman of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council, Stanislav Korolev, Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, Igor Kefeli, Director of the Center for Geopolitical Expertise of NWIM RANEPA, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Eurasian Integration: Economics, Law, Politics”.
Welcoming address to the forum participants was also given by Maxim Golikov, Head of the Foreign Economic Activity Department of the Expert Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Mezentsev, State Secretary of the Standing Committee of the Union State of Russia and Belarus, Sohail Khan, Deputy Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and others.
On 2 December, the work of the forum continued at the site of UNECON. During the thematic sessions, experts discussed the development of production chains, energy security, tools for developing the financial infrastructure of the EAEU, digitalization of Eurasian integration, modern challenges for the customs and logistics system of the EAEU.
