IX International forum “Eurasian Economic Perspective” was held in Saint Petersburg.
Traditionally, the Forum has become one of the main congress platforms for conducting a dialogue on the problems of Eurasian integration, as well as exchanging views on the prospects of Eurasian inter-state cooperation.
The Forum united representatives of legislative and executive authorities of the countries participating in the Eurasian economic integration, members of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, scientists and experts from leading universities of the Eurasian Universities Association, economists, politicians and public figures, representatives of business community.
The Forum was opened with a plenary session under the title “The Greater Eurasian Partnership: Responses to global challenges” where welcome speeches of the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, Secretary General of the IPA CIS Dmitry Kobitsky, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich, Director General of Interstate Development Corporation and Chairman of the Russia – ASEAN Business Council Ivan Polyakov, Rector of Moscow State University and President of the Eurasian Universities Association Viktor Sadovnichy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the PRC Andrey Denisov, were presented.
Rector of UNECON Igor Maksimtsev started the work of the Forum with a welcome speech where he outlined the tasks of the Forum. Igor Maksimtsev underlined the importance of the event and noted that “model projects of laws that were proposed at previous forums and were subsequently approved and developed in the states of the Eurasian Union, help to integrate the participating countries quicker and more efficiently”.
Reports were presented by Ivan Melnikov – First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russia-China Friendship Association, Vladimir Norov – Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Evgeny Tomikhin – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Thailand, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to ESCAP in Bangkok, Mikhail Krotov – Dr. in Economics, Professor of the Department of Economic Theory of St. Petersburg State University, Tigran Sargsyan – Vice Chairman of the Management Board of the Eurasian Development Bank, Andrey Lotsmanov – Deputy Co-Chairman of the RSPP Committee on Industrial Policy and Technical Regulation, Chairman of the Council for Technical Regulation and Standardization under the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia.
Round tables and panel sessions continued the work of the Forum. This year, the topics of the meetings were dedicated to the issues of development of industrial cooperation and regional production chains in Eurasia, strategic partnership of Russia and China, international transport corridors and economic cooperation of countries of the Greater Eurasia.
One of the key moments of the Forum’s programme was the signing of a quadripartite agreement on the formation of network interaction aimed at a comprehensive solution of scientific, technical, production, innovation, educational and other technical and economic problems that ensure the organization of circular economy and development of “green” technologies contributing to the formation of the industry on processing secondary resources (polymer waste) and improvement of the quality of work and life in the North-West Federal District. Among participants, there were: UNECON, International Consortium “Saint Petersburg Cleantech Cluster for urban environment”, Saint Petersburg State Institute of Technology and Research and Production Consortium “Polymer Cluster of St. Petersburg”.
On the first day of the forum, 28 October, Youth session was held. It united young scientists from different countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), providing a platform for getting acquainted with the ideas of colleagues, as well as interaction with experts of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
